While traditional geology work is typically done through physically measuring, observing, and documenting rocks, large digital databases present a new opportunity to make discoveries in the field of Earth science. The project focuses on GeoDeepDive, a massive library of computer readable scientific papers, and Macrostrat, an API-accessible geologic data archive. The goal of this project will be to create a tool that can parse through these large sources of Earth history data and extract geologic names and locations from the texts.
