Making Sense of Place Names

11.S945 -Teaching Critical Geospatial Data Literacy Practicum - Fall 2022 - Collaborators: Katharine Kettner, Okki Berendschot, Emily Levenson

An extension of the Making Sense of Maps and Data initiative, this project targets high school students and teaches them to explore and question Boston street names and the street’s heritage. Building the select street dataset and RShiny interface from scratch, our project team reflected on how to bring up the challenging topic of toponym and its controversial questions.
